Area Summary
Camden area of Minneapolis is located in the northwestern part of Minneapolis. Camden’s nickname is nicknamed after Camden, New Jersey. In 1995 Minneapolis Planning Commission approved a change to the neighborhood’s boundaries. Camden’s boundaries now include Interstate 94 on the East and Penn Avenues on the West to Dowling Avenue on the South and Webber Parkway on the North. In 1995 the Camden area was renamed Webber-Camden, but is still know by most as Camden. The area has industrial zones and a mix of middle class and working class homes. Webber Park connects with the Mississippi River. Some of the unique natural areas in Camden include Shingle Creek Parkway, Humboldt Greenway, Victory Memorial Drive, Webber Parkway and Webber Park.

Dowling Avenue – Memorial Parkway to Interstate 94
On this stretch of road in the Camden area the majority of homes are built in the early 1900s and are either a one story or story and a half. Dowling Avenue is also a major bus stop location with ten between Memorial Parkway and Interstate 94. Dowling is a main road through this part of the Camden area. There are a few small stores that include a gas station, hair salon, convenience store and florist. There is also a large cemetery in this area, Crystal Lake Cemetery, which is across from Folwell Park and Victory Memorial Ice Arena and Porter Field are also near by.
Homes built in the early 1900s typically have hardwood floors, double hung windows and in this area are approximately 1200 – 1800 square feet with two or three bedrooms. Some homes that were originally one stories became half stories when previous owners added more space in the attic and some may have a finished room in the basement to add more living area. Yards are fairly small, but large enough to have a detached garage that is accessible through the alley.
Henry High School
Located on Newton Avenue in the Camden area of Minneapolis. Henry High School is known for their renowned Professional Practice School partnering with the University of Minnesota to share best teaching practices. Henry High School’s leadership model was named among the top 100 national innovations in American Government by Harvard University.
Folwell Park
Folwell Park is 27 acres and one of the largest parks in north Minneapolis. The park is located on Dowling Avenue between Humboldt Avenue and Knox Avenue. Folwell Park offers wooded walking paths, picnic area, softball and baseball fields, soccer, football, tennis, basketball and tot lot playground and wading pool for kids. Folwell is also one of the first parks in Minneapolis to offer year round programs and activities for youth. The Recreation Center includes a gymnasium and computer lab. Other nearby parks include Cleveland Park and Perkins Hill Park. Folwell park was acquired in 1917 and named after William Watts Folwell, a park commission from 1889-1907 and first president of the University of Minnesota.
