Homes for Sale in Minneapolis’ Longfellow Area
Neighborhood Tour
The Longfellow area is home to the Danish American Center, Minnehaha Academy and Longfellow House. The Minnehaha Academy is a christian private school with students from preschool through twelve grade. The Longfellow House has served a wide range of functions, including a zoo, library, haunted house and currently an information center for Minneapolis’ Park System.
Homes in this area were built during the very early part of the 1900s when streetcar and residential trail line became accessible. With access to the Sears Catalog it was possible for the primarily immigrant population to build affordable homes.
Minnehaha Park features an overlook of the Mississippi River, located at the intersection of Hiawatha Avenue and Minnehaha Parkway. Additional features include 53 foot waterfall, limestone bluffs, concerts, picnics, walking and viewing the Falls. Minnehaha Park is also popular for weddings and nature lovers. There is also space for picnic, wading pool, disc golf course, volleyball and bike/pedestrian trails.
