Choosing the time of year to put your home on the market in Minnesota is kind of important versus somewhere much warmer in the Winter like California or Texas. In the chart below is an illustration of housing market activity in MN.

- Since March is the snowiest month in MN you might argue that activity doesn’t really pickup about mid way through, but instead it’s easier to just say March 1st since it’s as close to accurate as we can get. There’s also the push to get moved in, or out, when the school year concludes so everyone has an opportunity to settle in for the Summer.
- Summer is typically quieter due to prime time for vacationing. School is out, it’s warmer and this is the perfect opportunity for families to travel.
- Things pickup a little bit again at Labor Day. This group of buyers and sellers are trying to move before snow hits and/or the holidays.
- Once the holidays hit and the snow comes everything is pretty quiet and unless you’re a Winter enthusiasts most Minnesotans “hibernate for the Winter”.
